Please tell me about your western leather lampshades. They are all so pretty and unique. I see they are handmade, but where and what kind of animal? I'm very interested in purchasing two for our bedroom. Thanks. - A

We offer several different kinds. We offer unique leather lampshades that have the designs and scenes spray painted by hand on either genuine Pigskin leather or on Rawhide leather.
Pigskin leather is unique in that it has tiny holes where the pig's hair used to be and was needed for breathability. The pigskin has been tanned and often is dyed as the skin takes the dye well and will be consistent. Pigskin is a soft hide.
Rawhide on the other hand, is skin from an animal that has not been 'tanned' with any oils and is very stiff. However, without proper regular oiling, it may crack on you - however, that could take many years.
Then there are the hand made and hand painted rawhide sheepskin lampshades. These are the best of the best that we offer and are fully made in the USA, even the sheep are owned by American ranchers. Each sheepskin lampshade is individually hand painted by an American artist using small brushes and lead-free paint. The amount of time that goes into each one is incredible, but very well worth the price and the time it takes to have one made. The most amazing thing about our rawhide sheepskin lampshades is they require only an occasional wipe with a damp rag to keep them looking like new and they will never crack on you. A real value for the money.
